Natembeya resigned from his role as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner in January 2022, joined the Democratic Action Party of Kenya, DAP - K, to vie for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat.

He is the mastermind of the Tawe Movement, which seeks to address issues affecting the people from Western Region.
