Jimi Wanjigi has been
arrested on the 19th august 2024 after presenting himself to the DCI headquarters.
The reason behind is arrest lies with his connection to the protests that were
conducted on 8th august 2024 popularly known as Nane Nane. However, the police
have denied the claims stating that the arrest is linked to a teargas canister
that was found outside wanjigi’s home.
The arrest has sparked controversy after Wanjigi and his legal team accused the law enforcement by defying court orders that barred them from arresting the mystery business man.
Jimi’s detention took a
different turn when the police claimed that he is under arrest for unlicensed
firearms that were found at his residence.
A few days ago, on August
16, 2024, Jimi Wanjigi secured a court order that prevented
him from being arrested. In a social media post, Wanjigi stated that , “The DCI
has illegally arrested me despite numerous court orders barring the same
arrest.”
His lawyer, John Khaminwa, was also vocal in the issue condemning the Kenyan police force for detaining his client as the act was illegal and despicable. He went ahead to compare the current President William Ruto to that of the late president Moi.
On August 8, 2024, the
police had raided Wanjigi’s home after allegedly discovering teargas canisters,
mobile phones, and other questionable items in a vehicle that was parked
outside his gate. Jimi denied the allegations and said that he was being set
up.
Despite Jimi and his legal team’s efforts, he was detained at Kamukunji Police Station and is set to be arraigned at Milimani Senior Courts on August 20, 2024.
Wanjigi still stands strong on his critic against President William Ruto’s administration. He has vowed to continue speaking out against what he perceives as the government’s unconstitutional and reckless actions.
